#RTCQ Work ItHey RT,

For the past few weeks, @Brandon, @Chris, and myself have been working night and day on a project and we're getting...well, really sleepy. However, we're incredibly passionate about what we're doing and we want it to be the best it can be! So, to help keep us motivated (and to possibly motivate others)...

What is the last project you put your heart and soul into? Something that completely drained you, while at the same time, really excited you? How did it turn out?

Tell your tale in the comments section below, folks! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some energy drinks that need consuming...

The website for my F1 in Schools team. I have spent hours, and still do spend hours, each week trying to learn HTML and CSS as I go. Every time I fix an issue or add something important, I always feel great about what I have learned in the time that I have.
It's not finished and the one on the web is somewhat out of date, but the link is here

I had to write a short story for my Creative Writing class a few months back, so I decided to use the opportunity to make an origin story for a villain of mine. (From a novel I'm working on). I started off slow, as I usually do, not really wanting to go write something that I never intended to, well, write. It was a throwaway idea to write an origin story, but at the time it seemed great. Until I started writing. It seemed silly to show a villain as an average person before the villainy hit. But the deadline drew closer and I realized that I needed to finish it, or risk the failing grade. So I began to write. Grudgingly, at first, but as the character started to come alive in the story, I began to get excited. I began to want to write, I wanted to show my character, make everyone know his motives, his life, the inner workings of his heart and soul. To show his fall to a life of crime and wickedness. I wrote whenever I had the free time for about a week, and eventually got to the day before it was due. I spent the entire day, 14 hours, writing and editing my story. There was more than one time where I thought I wouldn't finish. But I did. I finished the damn thing. And what's more, everyone from my class who read it loved it, and wanted more. It was a great experience, with a fantastic payoff.

Not so much a project, but an event. Henly Royal Regatta , trained for 4 months solid every day, and won the first round. Was amazing, and it drained me to my limit!

Pretty much the job I have now. I work at a historic site and June through September we do one event each month, and we just added a really cool event for October on Victorian mourning practices and customs.

No one person can spend the whole day planning because our first priority is always visitors. So even if it is the day before an event and we really need to focus on set up, if there are people who want the tour, we stop what we are doing and give the tour. I love everything we do, but I come home each night ready to collapse. However, it really all pays off come the day of the event.

The last project that I worked passionately on was just a few days ago on Saturday and Sunday, when I created a 4 and a half minute short film that I worked day and night on. Like I got zero sleep! Although it was only 48 hours of work, since that's all we were allowed, it was probably one of the coolest experiences ever. I've worked on films before, but my god that felt SO amazing to do. I was so happy when I got to submit it and I can't stop showing it off to my friends and family who have been so supportive of me.

The film turned out alright, but no matter what that experience will probably stick with me for a very long time. I don't know if I have ever felt so in love with something, but when I am creating a film...it's like I am in my own world and nothing can stop me! :D

Currently working on the third draft of a novel that I've spent the better part of a year on. If there's anything that teaches you that creative work is more often a marathon than a sprint, try your hand at a novel.

Alternatively, my friends and I dumped about 2-3 years into creating a few seasons of some different web shows. Requires lots of patience and the ability to know when to move on to the next episode.

I had read a quote from Micheal Crichton saying how that fact was the hardest thing to come to terms with when you write.

Didn't really think that much of it till I started writing a little bit and realized how amazingly true it was.

It had to be my DECA project. DECA is a business organization that has different categories that you compete in according to the different fields of business. For my partner and I, we created an advertising campaign for a rather large business in our area and had to utilize different advertising media in it while keeping it realistic to the business.

We gave it our all often staying up late working on our presentation and our PowerPoint. Towards the end we were just exhausted. But it was all worth it as be received first and State and then went to Nationals down in Salt Lake City where we placed in the top 20 out of hundreds of teams! It was a great experience and plan on doing it again. .

I'm just fresh out of High school but probably my Advanced Higher Graphics folio, which netted me 60% of my overall final mark for that class. I was in that classroom pretty much every lunch time, free period and after school for about 2 months so I could get it up to the highest mark possible. In the end? I got 59/60 because i'm crap at rendering by hand which I had to do for some preliminary sketches and ideas.

So, back in my days as a young engineering student who had not yet quite realized that he had no passion for engineering, we had a team assignment as our final project for the semester which was something like 20% of our grade. The project was to use those awesome Lego Mindstorms robots to create a robot which would accomplish various tasks, including:
-following a course designated by a black line
-detecting an object
-lifting said object and placing it in a designated drop-off location
-moving over obstacles in the terrain
We spent an unthinkable amount of time doing this project. In my four-person team, I was in charge of the robot's actual design with one of the others, and the other two guys did the programming section. We went through gallons of soda and energy drinks and unspeakable amounts of pizza in our endeavor to make this robot beautiful. We added flourishes, such as a little Lego man hanging from an unnecessary tower. We created a stupid acronym to name the robot using our professor's name. We finally finished the thing, and it was beautiful. It could do everything we thought it would need to do, and we were proud of it.

The day of the test came, and it failed miserably, and we got a 65% on the project. It was one of the highest grades. (I got a 59% B in that class that semester).

The best part is finding little bugs in the program, like the one that caused our robot to pick up the can, then repeatedly smash the can into it's head. At 3 in the morning, our entire project team just lost it and laughed for about twenty minutes.

LOOL, ours picked up a virtual bunny, gently and smoothly picking it up, put it on a pillow (which basically was just a box), even PET it a bit, then 4-iron that bastard across the screen. that was our ultimate test of our program, it was awesome!

though self destructing robot is much more funnier t...

So 2 years ago I was doing engineering in University and I was bored with my free time. So I decided to do a ridiculously hard project that I really wanted to see come to fruition but never got the time to do. That project has to be creating a detailed schematic of an Iron Man suit using AutoCad and Solidworks. Took about year because from september to may I would work on it whenever I had time to spare from tests, assignments, exams and stuff. But during the month of june, july and august. I must have literally worked 7 hours a day on completing the project. At one point I had messed up an entire portion of the suit (the chest plate) and had to scrap it and redo the entire section. Took all the way up till mid August and I was finally done. It looks so freaking awesome but I doubt I will ever have time and money to ever manufacture it to see if it can be worn. It's sounds easy to design a suit because comicon and other cons have so many iron man suits but this one is legit. The design was inspired by the Mark IV Ironman suit. The arm and leg plates mechanically close onto the body all the while using systematic pressurized hydraulics with gauges to make sure once it clamps the body it doesn't keep squeezing and crush the bones. Most parts of the armor have hydraulic and mechanical functions. It doesn't fly or anything like that but there are flaps that can deploy. It was probably the only project to date that I had really put my all into. Unfortunately the physical prototype will have to wait for some time.

My job, just pasted 5 years here. The pay is horrible but I've pretty much have rebuilt a microwave internet network. It's been tons of hard work, climbing towers to hang new antennas and dishes, installing customers and just keeping it up and running. Journal'd about it here. Overall it gives me a huge sense of accomplishment... that being said there are other things I'd rather be doing for a vocation.

This one time, at band camp...

Well, no, really it's an ongoing project based on my work, where I'm trying to help a company broaden and grow, when its product is quite specific ie Music. It's a true challenge, but it helps set limits and makes me think creatively how to market something, as I am the only one in the company with ANY sort of idea how the internet and social media works.

And if YOU are a musician who wants a taste of what SshhMutes has to offer, get in contact with me, or go to sshhmute.com! I may be able to work a discount!

^Obligatory marketing opportunity... I apologize to the world.

Its kinda sad, but I can't think of anything. Maybe trying to 100% Dark Souls, but nothing life changing. I am going to fall back on the excuse that I'm only 19 though, so there's still time.

I'd have to say my Bowser costume. I've made a bunch of costumes before but I had never done anything like that so there was a lot of trial and error. There were times where I wanted to postpone it or just give up entirely because I had lost my job but my friend convinced me to continue. In the end, it was absolutely worth it. Although I am working on something now that I think might top that.

My Photoshop project that I've been working on. It's not done, but I've been working on it for awhile. I have made one for me, a few of my friends, and now working on RT Staff members, and yes, I've done one for you Miles. I'm just waiting to finish all of them and release them on here for everyone to see instead of putting them up separately.

I've spent the past four months working nonstop on a volume of mystery short stories. It's my own modern take on the Sherlock Holmes character, except his name is Sheridan Hull and he lives in the fictional city of Newfield, Oregon. I've had a lot of sleepless nights outlining, writing, and creating promotional content for the series, and it's been worth every second of it. I just published the 12th story last night and have 25 stories in total scheduled. I absolutely cannot wait to finish it, because I know the rewarding feeling that will come from it will be so worth all of the effort.

My first short film for my Film Production class. Once we shot everything, I had to write the soundtrack and do sound effects for it in <48 hours. I spent almost two straight days in front of my computer with headphones on, just listening to the same sound clips over and over again until I could almost taste sound.

The film was terrible, but it was probably the hardest I've ever worked on something that I enjoyed THAT much. Absolutely worth it.

I wouldn't call it so much of a project but last fall my tech classes were from 8 am till 5 pm... that wasn't so hard but then the same 2 weeks I was taking ultrasonic inspection I took a composites class that ran from 5pm to 9pm.
So besides lunch and the breaks in between I was in class from 8am till 9pm for 2 weeks. Sleep deprived ftw.

My final project for my audio production class was to completely redo the audio for a scene from any movie, dialogue and everything, plus add new sound effects to make it more understandable without video. I picked that scene from Zombieland where they go into the grocery store and run into all the fat zombies, and it was pretty much the most fun i've had in college so far

Studying for my Bloodstain Examiner Certification for over a year and a half at work and at home. I read the books probably 5 times each. After I took the test I went to Sniper School and had to wait until I got back to find out how I did. The problem was that if you failed they didn't tell you...you just didn't hear anything. Finding out I had passed after a few weeks was amazing. I'm only the second person in my state to get the certification so my Chief was very happy about it too.

When I was a senior in High School. We were all required to do some sort of project that would help the community in some way, step out of our comfort zone, and something that may be tyde to our carrer choice. My project was a documentary film called "F (The Dimensions Of Academic Failure"

This film consisted of a ton of student and teacher interviews, surveys, and research. All done within a few months since I was lazy. I even got sick while working on it and still stayed up very late in order to get it done. But I finished it and I'm proud I made it because it's a major milestone in my career as a film maker

The last thing I've put my heart and soul into is the robot for my High School robotics team. We got it built within 6 weeks and won our way to the national competition. Here is a link to our final winning match in the quarter finals of our division. We are team 1918, if you wanted to know. The alliance we were against actually went on to win the whole national competition.

Over the last few months, I've been working on 3 different interactive Microsoft paint adventures comics.
One being helping out my friend who runs his on the bioware forums,
One being based around exaggerated Roosterspeak anecotes, based in the star wars universe,
And the other, which will be released fairly soon, is one based around JamesKryack's Hull series. Just a very interesting setting, with a lot of possibilities! I can post images soon, but not quite yet!

*Miles, I owe you a custom character. I'll contact you later about it.
