One YearHey RT,

About a year ago, I sat in a room with two people I greatly respect. One was Brandon Farmahini, the station manager of Texas Student Television during my freshman year of college. The other was Matt Hullum, one of the men behind Red vs. Blue and the voice actor of my favorite character in the series. Our conversation felt like it couldn't have lasted for more than five minutes, and before I knew it, we were all shaking hands and Brandon was asking me when I could start.

I asked him if today was too early.

That was the beginning of my internship at Rooster Teeth Productions. That first day was spent learning new software, cutting audio for Season 9, and creating an organizational spreadsheet for the props and costumes (which, to this day, has never been used). I would say it was exciting to work alongside familiar faces, but to be honest I really only knew their voices. The two faces I did recognize, however, were those of Chris Demarais and Marshall Rimmer. The comedy duo were well known at TSTV for their hit web series "The Wingmen". I remember being devastated my freshman year when I broke my ankle hours before they held auditions. I never thought I would have another chance to work with them.

Everyone at the office made me nervous. I was constantly worried about the possibility of looking like an idiot in front of someone important, but the thing was, everyone was important. The only employee I felt like I could somewhat relate to was a 19 year-old kid with long hair and look on his face that told the world "I could really use a nap right now." Kerry Shawcross. Like me, he was a fan who had managed to get an internship, but because this guy had the brains, the creativity, and the work ethic of a hundred fans, he landed a job. That was something I respected, and I immediately looked up to him. I still look up to him.

So there I was. A college student, still in the process of learning the tricks of his trade, surrounded by individuals who were each undeniably gifted in their own way...and I had no idea what was to come next.

Fast forward one year...

Today, I sat in a room with two people I greatly respect. One was Joel Heyman; actor, writer, and the voice of everyone's favorite Blue soldier. The other was Burnie Burns; founder of Rooster Teeth and creator of the "popular web series, Red vs. Blue." One was rehearsing lines I had been asked to write this afternoon, and the other was asking what I thought of his performance in the scene.

Wat.

...

No, seriously. What???

How did this happen? In the course of one year my life has completely changed. I've sung to a crowd of strangers in a circus tent, I left the country for the first time in my life and danced like an idiot while I was there, and right now (at this very second) my words are being read by awesome people all around the world.

When I realized, today, that it had been a little over a year since I started working here, I figured I should probably make a journal about it...and if you can't tell by now, I still don't really know what to say. But, I suppose if I had to say something, it would be thank you.

Thank you for being the coolest online community in the history of the world. You guys opened your arms to me when I first joined this site, and you guys have been a constant source of motivation, as well as inspiration. We are a community of individuals who have come together to celebrate the things that we love. We are gamers, artists, soldiers, teachers, students, writers, dancers, singers, and we come in all shapes and sizes, from all corners of the world, and that's just fucking awesome.

A lot of things have changed in a year, both for myself as well as Rooster Teeth Productions. It seems like there are new faces at our company meetings every week, and the quantity and quality of our shows continues to leave me baffled. But one thing will never change, and that is our desire to give you guys the best that we can. After all, you deserve it.

So...yeah...here I am, a recent college graduate, still learning the tricks of his trade, surrounded by individuals who are each undeniably gifted in their own way...and I have no idea what's going to come next.

Congrats on your first anniversary. I believe that is the paper anniversary, but in the digital age, people don't seem to use that stuff all that much anymore.

Keep living the dream, Miles. You've earned it and I'm sure you'll continue earning it.

congrats, Miles. And, someday, when you're done working on RvB for a few minutes you can get back to design work. Although, admittedly, writing lines and hearing them read back is much more exciting than holding flags for photo shoots. .

I'm glad you're around. Oh, and one last thing. I promise that one of these days we'll finally find some time to play Sonic Generations.

It's all because you deserve it, you have shown us that your deserve your place in that fucking office, because you are, as everyone in that(those) buildings is awesome.

We should be the ones thanking you, and that's exactly what I'm doing right now, thanking you.

Thank you Miles.

Happy Roosterversary, Miles!

We gotta thank you for all your hard work and dedication that makes so much of the cool stuff that RT gives us possible.
You're clearly a party and a half, you respond to freakin' EVERYBODY on the site, which deserves a medal all its own, you write interesting stuff, and so you deserve every bit of credit!

I remember being a Guardian at RTX and seeing you up there with everybody singing, mingling, etc. I thought you just a volunteer fan like me. I was all like "Damn, he works fast. How is he already on the inside?"

I figured you were a friend of RT or something. Only afterward did I realize the extent of your affiliation. Happy anniversary man. It's crazy how much of a difference one year makes.
