Place to stay for RTX?So, I was going to stay with my sister/brother-in-law for RTX, but they might be moving to Houston, like ASAP. So, ASAP could be after RTX and everything is fine, but if it's before... BLEH!
Rooster Teeth are role models (Connect the hots)TL;DR It is good the video was taken down. Geoff and Gav are role models. Youtube will copy them. "Connect the dots" done by them is probably not too creepy. If the youtube assholes do it, it'll probably escalate to sexual assault or something dumb. Connect the dots is creepy. It isn't a crime, it isn't even "wrong" but the same can be said for talking about getting jizzed on for money.
RT decided to take down the video all themselves, nobody is to blame. RT isn't going to take down a video because of youtube comments and Tumblr drama... If you think so you don't respect Rooster Teeth at all. It's over, let it die.
NOW! That was the short version! Time for my rant.
Everyone throwing a tiff over Connect the hots is stupid. Both sides. If you're OUTRAGED THAT THEY WOULD BLA BLA, stfu, you're stupid.
If you're OUTRAGED PEOPLE WOULD BE UPSET BECAUSE BLA BLA BLA, STFU! YOU'RE DUMB!
Connect the dots is a creepy game. Gav and Geoff are creepy. They talk about shitting out their faces after eating themselves, getting jizzed on for money, and way too many other things to list here.
They are creepy. That's why we love them.
I was personally offended by connect the hots, it was hard to listen to. I wasn't outraged, upset, angry about it. I was just like, "wow, that's horrible..."
The game IS harmless. No, I don't condone stalking women, and yes, stalking/harassment is bad, just as Geoff's apology said. But nowhere does it say that being creepy is illegal.
If you are asked to stop and continue to do it, then it's a problem. If you do it beyond mere creepiness and it becomes harassment, then yes, that's not longer "harmless", that's harassment.
Geoff and Gav probably know that, and don't take it that far.
Anyone who is OUTRAGED about it needs to chill. If this upsets you, you probably SHOULD quit RT.
Anyone who said that the video should be kept, and anyone who thinks otherwise should quit RT, you're wrong and stupid.
Why should this video be taken down?
RoosterTeeth staff are role models
Geoff and Gav aren't going around harassing random women, stalking them, etc. They just walk around being creepy. Just like that guy who mutters angerly to himself or that guy who likes to stare at people. No laws are being broken. Nobody is getting hurt. Some people might be uncomfortable or afraid, but that's their problem. Nobody's going to win a lawsuit or get security to do something because they're overreacting (or just reacting if you don't think it's overly so)
That's not the issue.
Geoff and Gav work for RoosterTeeth. Almost ANYBODY would give up their lives to be them. A LARGE number of people try to copy them in everything they do. People live with the dream of one day working for RT or playing games and making videos as a job, and they look to the Rooster Teeth crew for a "How to" guide.
So now you have Geoff and Gav doing creepy stuff that's borderline criminal, and you have the children of YouTube who think rape is funny and want to be Gav/Geoff.
If any of these fucked up losers tried to copy this game, I doubt it'd go as well as it does for Geoff and Gav. I see a lot of sexual harassment, sexual assault, etc. and what are these children going to say??
"I was just playing connect the hots! Geoff Ramsey and Gavin Free from RoosterTeeth were talking about it all the time!"
That's why the video needs to go down. I hope they edit it out and put it back, but I really hope they never bring that back.
Geoff and Gav don't want to be role models, and they DO know that they are. I can't put words in his mouth, but I think THAT is what Geoff's apologizing for.
"We produce over 3 hours of content a week, and sometimes we make mistakes. We have grown our audience because we try not to censor ourselves. We try not to filter our jokes or discussions during videos. When you do that occasionally you are going to say really stupid stuff. That's what happened here, and we're sorry." We forgot that people will ACTUALLY TRY this out since we said it. That's the stupid thing they did. They went away from the hypothetical and talked about something imitate-able.
"We want to be clear that in no way do we condone following women or men down the street, stalking, or giving unwanted sexual attention to someone. That's not funny and not something anyone should ever do." He does not claim that their version of connect the hots was in violation of this. It doesn't
I wish they could say and do anything without consequences, but that's the price of being famous.
