now, you gotta agree that both of them were greath when it came to being lead characters on SG-1, but jack was funnier by far. if they'd had more seasons with mitchell, i'd have been a it more torn on my decision.
While Jack clearly beats Mitchell, I still like Mitchell. I thought his transition into the series was written quite well, especially how you start feeling sorry for him because the team has disbanded. Unlike when Jonas Quinn was written in as a clear replacement for Jackson, and he is given the stupid ability of a perfect memory which morphs into pre-cognition. Screw that. I'm glad he didn't last. At least Mitchell was funny. And there was that moment when Vala talked about humans didn't have much diversity, a nod at how Ben Browder and Michael Shanks look quite similar.
Good point man. Mitchell was good, but he wasn't around enough to really compete with all O'Niall has done. No offense to General Landy (who I thought was a good addition) I wonder what it would have been like if Jack had stayed on as the General running SGC when Mitchell came in.
That would have been interesting. Because they're quite similar in humour you could imagine that they'd get along quite well, and equally imagine that they'd either never get any work done. Though I wouldn't mind seeing some contention between the two, like perhaps an older brother like rivalry. Maybe the 3rd SG-1 movie will have some moments like that.
Or, they can actually make an episode where O'Niall goes back and knocks up his mom, just so we can finish the joke from the 200th episode. That's probably what the next movie is about. haha
Personally I'm an O'niell' supporter.Aside from being the first he added a brilliant quirk to the team and no matter how bad the sarcasm or joke they got a laugh from me.
But i can't bag Mitchell either his entry into the series was well written and he fitted the niche very well upon arrival.
While I like Cameron Mitchell and think he did a good job when Jack was promoted to General and reassigned. The Problem for me is Ben Browder to me will always be John Crichton of Farscape. And having him and Claudia Black in the same show again even though they played two completely different people and very likable ones at that. I kept waiting to see Chiana or Ka D'Argo pop out of nowhere.
(though notably they did tip their hat to Farscape in the TV ideas episode)
Jack played by R.D. Anderson was just the kind of guy you loved to follow in the show. He mixed the right amount of crass smart ass with friendly commander to make the charioteer a memorable and lovable one (No not that kind of lovable get your mind out of the gutter) Plus Rick's interaction with the rest of the cast Amanda, Chris, Michael, and the rest was one everyone came to know and expect and usually enjoy.
the original people always like better, his sarcasm is the best, though Mitchell is still really good.
This statement is not always true.
I give you M*A*S*H as an example. Lt. Col. Henry Blake vs Col. Sherman T. Potter I would take Potter any day of the week as a C.O. over Blake
Mitchell was a Good SG-1 commander But when you break it down to chemistry between actors vs fantasy comand structure, Rick D. Anderson just had the personality that worked with his costars for the setting of the show better. Where as Ben Browder and Claudia Black had fantastic chemistry in Farscape for the rolls they portrayed too.
Point is Richard Dean Anderson was SG-1's heart Michael Shanks was it's soul, Amanda tapping was it's savvy and brains and Chris Judge was it's brawn and bravery.
Claudia and Ben were well transitioned into the show and I love the episodes they are in. They both brought a new level of experience and panache to the show but as you stated jjcard and in this case I agree the original cast was the gold standard for this particular show.
I think Cam was a great addition to the show and love his character (seasons 9 and 10 actually have some of my all time favorite Stargate episodes) but he just can't top O'Neill.
Mitchell is a great character, but he lacks the same charm that jack had. Plus, my dad was friends with Richard Dean Anderson in high school so I'm biased :D
