Sponsorship placementsanyone else finding it a bit "annoying" with all the sponsor placement? (and I don't mean at the beginning, I mean mid-podcast). Last podcast it happened again, with Burnie bringing up Audible kind of in the middle of an unrelated discussion. (although I must admit it came out funny this time)
Most other podcasts I listen to who get audible sponsorship only mention it once at the start, and once at the end. It's not like a radio show where people might tune in in the middle of the show... I really don't see why the need to repeat it mid-flight.
Ideally, maybe they should just record it once, and then paste it at the front and end of every podcast (again, like all the other podcasts I listen to)

You need to remember though that they are a business, and it is probably the right business decision. The 2 mins of sponsor-talk isn't going to stop people listening to the other 88 minutes of solid awesome (for me at least).
You'll probably get used to it anyway. I spent about 10 podcasts waiting for Geoff to turn up. When he wasn't there, the podcast just seemed to go down to "adequate" instead of "amazing". However, I am now used to the non-Geoff podcast. I recently went back over the last 30 podcasts and enjoyed them a lot more than the first time.
Many, many podcasts have mid-podcast sponsorships. See Marc Maron and Adam Carolla. Why? Because it is a recorded medium and people will just fast forward past it at the beginning and stop listening if the advertisement is at the end. If it is in the middle, people are less likely to do it.
As of right now though, it is a little awkward. Primarily this is due to the nature of this particular podcast. The ones I mentioned above have definite segments with transitions. Part of what makes this podcast so enjoyable is how they go from topic to topic in such a random fashion. It will take a little time for Gus/Burnie to get smoother at transitioning in and out of reads, but it will happen.
The podcast is free. Two minutes of reads is totally worth it. I am glad they have found a way to monetize the podcast because now it will definitely continue for the foreseeable future.
it seems you guys didn't notice I said it, or I didn't say it clearly enough:EDIT: I apparently forgot to say it. *slaps forehead*I don't CARE that much. I was just wondering.
In reply to Wookiee72, #5:
I didn't think of the people zapping forward or ending early thing, so yeah it makes sense.
But like I "suggested", maybe they should just record their "advertisment", and then paste it in beginning and end, and somewhere in the middle (where they take a real break). Then again, all of this means to be organized before the podcast starts, which I think isn't really their strength when it comes to the podcast
I'm sure they'll figure it out

Sounds like you mean like they did with animated adventures in the video podcasts?
They worked quite well because they would talk about stuff while the advert was on, and then talk about the conversation they were having after they returned. It meant they got back into the action quite quickly and didn't disturb the flow. I think this might be slightly better than it is now, but wouldn't change too much.
I just wish that something good actually came from it though. They're supposedly working on something but since the sponsorship / re-branding we've lost the video podcasts and certain members.
yeah that sounds about right :)
They have mentioned live video podcasts on multiple occasions, but nothing has materialised as of yet. I am sure they have been saying it for ages. I keep looking around the site in case they released it and I had just missed it somehow.
They also mentioned some sort of mysterious beta around March, and to sign up on the site. I also don't know what happened to that, because I kept checking the site and never saw anything.
