Young family needs a new car.I might be flamed for not posting this in the right area, but I thought a new topic was appropriate.
My brother and his wife are looking for a new car to replace her currently collapsing 2001 Saturn Ion. She loves some of the little quirky things about it but hates its reliability and cheap feel. He (and everyone else who has ever been inside the car) hate the quirky things, such as the center mounted instruments. So they have both agreed that it is time to look for a new vehicle.
She has been looking at cars like the new Ford Focus, Honda Fit, and the older Toyota Matrix. They are looking for a four door hatchback because they are hoping for children soon and want something safe and easy on gas. Well the other day they test drove the Focus, and found that there was not enough leg room for my brothers 6'2" frame. This basically leaves them with one real option, the Fit, since Matrixs (or is it Matrici?) are impossible to buy used in there area. The only one for sale in the area is over 100 miles away.
I know there are vehicles that are not SUVs or Minivans that can give them what they are looking for out there, I am just drawing a blank to what they might be. This is why I have come to the all powerful Rooster Teeth forums for help. Please can you, and all of your collective knowledge, give them suggestions on vehicles that would be safe, economical, with storage space and are a good comparison to the Focus or Fit.
I will be eternally grateful to any real suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestion, they are test driving one tonight.
Suzuki make wagons/hatches as well.
They weren't too impressed with the prius, it just didn't suit them for whatever reason.
