Nintendo 3DSNintendo Co., Ltd. (Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch "Nintendo 3DS"(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.

"Nintendo 3DS"(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed "Nintendo DS series", whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.

We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

That's probably a bad idea on Nintendo's behalf on releasing this kind of information just before even releasing the DSi XL in America.

Everyone knew they were going to announce it in 3 months anyway. I think it's interesting. E3 can't come soon enough.

A Japanese news website, Nikkei, has released further details of the 3DS device. (no word on if this is confirmed or rumors)
- Control stick instead of D-pad.
- Rumble/force-feedback.
- Improved wireless speed and battery life.
- Accelerometer.
- Screen that is smaller than 4 inches.
- Timing on the announcement could be related to decreased software releases.
- Nikkei expects release in second half of 2010.

There is also word saying the system will have a barely noticeable gap between the top and bottom screens, and near GCN quality graphics.

I have been waiting years for Nintendo to come out with a new hand held system. After my DS broke, I wanted to wait. Finally!

I'm assuming that means a Japanese release in the 2nd half of 2010?

I don't think they'll make the screen too much smaller or it would be a really bad move on their part
I think Nikkei's "notes" are just rumors

I assume so as well, since it is a Japanese news site.

Other US sites are expecting a 2011 release.

But in other news, Nintendo spoke about the 3DS yesterday.
“We wanted to give the gaming industry a head’s up about what to expect from Nintendo at E3. We’ll invite people to play with the new device then.” - Ken Toyoda, chief spokesman at Nintendo

E3 needs to get here NOW!

Yeah, at first this was everyone's thoughts about what the 3DS might be doing, but as you can see they achieved that with the DSi hardware.

Nintendo says they only release new consoles if there is something they want to do that the current models can't do.

Also that video said that the screens will be the same size as the DS Lite screens, which is not only unconfirmed but every other report said they will be smaller than 4.3".

Everything we know about the 3DS is rumor except that it can do 3D without the use of 3D Glasses.

Do you think this is fake? A Japanese blog said it might not represent the final product.

I believe that it is fake, because out of all of those screen shots, I don't see any Nintendo Logo, or DS Settings.

You would think He would take some screen shots of the Home Screen but he didn't.

I believe its just something that someone with to much time and money, made.

Considering "DS" means "Dual Screen", I would lean towards fake also.

I have to express my disappointment for this move on Nintendo's behalf. It's cool that there will be 3D graphics, but having a thumbstick? That's like taking a gamecube controller and slapping a screen on it.

Nothing is wrong with them, unless they're the kind Sony used for the PSP which kept breaking

Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. According to several developer sources, the 3DS device is not using the NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset, a rumor that's been floating around since 2009. - IGN
This better not be a lie.
E3 can't get here faster.
