Mass Effect 3Well, we already know that, by now, Mass Effect 2 will be comming out real soon, and Mass Effect is planned to be a trilogy.
So, the guys over at IGN have already decided to see what little they could find out about the game in this little interview.
It seems that the ME3 storyline is already being developed, and that we can expect it before the release of the next bunch of consoles.
So, without further wait, let's get some opinions on this topic! :D

return this thread to the front pageget some opinions on the ME3 plot. They (Bioware) have stated that they want to have the plot end relatively quicker this time around, rather than the time it takes to complete the ME1 and (most likely) ME2.
So I'm wondering what you guys think... do you think it'll be alright to have a relatively short plot this time around, or do you wish the experience would extend for as long as possible before unleashing the epic, final ending to Mass Effect?
ME1 had like a 10 hour main plotline. If they go any shorter I'll be unhappy. The only reason Mass Effect playthroughs are so long is the time it takes for all the side quests.
That would be awesome if you could find the link.
I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a surprise, though, considering they've (probably) finished ME2... and I highly doubt they'll spend so much time on DLC... not necessarily suggesting the quality of ME2 DLC, but let's be real, they can't spend all their time on DLC without working on ME3 itself.
Think I found it:

Hey, uhh, you might wanna click my link for the exact same page...
Sorry about that. I'm pretty sure the article I read was on G4tv.com's news page. It's probably buried somewhere with some of the other articles.
Well, short plot can mean a lot of sexy side missions. As long as there's a balance I'm ok with it. Although, I'm really into long plots like with Dragon Age.
Awesome.
For me, shorter development time = shorter plots / less side missions, more or less...
Unless they made the game play so perfect in ME2 that they'll keep the system without retouching it, and just move right on through with the ME3 story.
Which sounds more likely. My logic was sound earlier, though... at least, for me.
Based on the ending for ME2, ME3 is going to be nuts.
One thing I'm still curious about in ME2... If the reapers are made by the genetic material of their victims after the conquest, why was the human-reaper being made BEFORE the conquest? Is it only because the collectors/protheans could do it ahead of time, as they were incapable of becoming a reaper themselves?
And also, How did the first conquest happen with - what I'm assuming is the case - only one reaper to start with?
So many damn questions... I'll be a bit annoyed if I don't get answers.
So disregard my first question, because I was wrong in my judgment there...
God, triple post... I feel like a n00b
I don't know, if they're going for a 2011/2012 release, that means we've got 2 years of development time. Since it seems like they've settled on an engine for their combat and storytelling now, I think that's a pretty good time to develop something that will kick ass.
I know they promised lots of DLC, but I imagine it will just be done by a small team and with the majority working on the next sequel. ME2 took about 2 years, and I think it turned out damn good, and that was with a combat overhaul. If they stick to minor tweaks - that's all the more time for thinking up great levels/quests.
my $0.02
don't rush me!
I totally agree with you, especially with tweaking and stuff.
If, however, I wanted to ask for ONE new thing in ME3, it would be some sort of space combat, controlling the Normandy and such. I can just imagine how awesome it would be to control the Normandy as you and thousands of others of frigates fly into the Reaper invasion fleet, with explosions everywhere and a bunch of ships blowing up all around you. :D As well, I would love to see space combat pop up randomly in the game, especially if its a merc/pirate attack in the Terminus systems.
In reply to gonzo11790, #19:
This world will keep going, whether you're ready or not!
Also, I'd like some manner of gear system between the horribly broken one from ME1 and the almost non-existent one from ME2. Almost every other RPG ever created has had a workable gear system, I don't see why Mass Effect can't.
Also, less annoyingly boring probes.

Scanning system was better then the Mako missions, but still kind of painful. Let's hope third times the charm.
Exactly. A lot of the stuff that was ban in ME1 got better, but a lot of it was still not quite great.
What do you guys think of these suggestions?
2. Agreed.
3. I don't know, I kind of enjoyed the ensemble cast they put together in ME2.
4. Eeeeeeh, I'm not a huge fan of complete customization. It's a ship, not a personal house. You get to customize the captain's quarters, and I think that's plenty.
I have to disagree. I didn't really care about any one squadmate over the other because I was constantly switching between them. I think as far as squad goes, they should focus on quality over quantity; possibly with less RPG stereotypes. Mordin for example was a breathe of fresh air, whereas Zaeed was the same grizzled veteran I've seen a dozen times over.
Zaeed was DLC and was obviously not meant to be hugely developed. He was a quest, a heavy weapon, and a new ability, not a real character.
Everyone else though was pretty genuine and in depth. It wasn't like they didn't put a ton of effort into each and every one of them, the quantity didn't negatively affect the quality. If you didn't like a character it wasn't because they didn't have enough time to make one that you liked.
