Discussion of Issues in the P&T ForumJust like in P&CE:
I thought it would be good to start with a clean slate to go with a clean forum.

Reminder:

This is a place you can report problems (like bad threads), and/or discuss on issues that really don't warrant the Mod's time, and/or on issues to decide if something is really ...

Your goal should be to make interesting points, not to stir poopoo up

Would I be allowed to make a forum asking "If you could spend time with 5 people in the afterlife who would they be and why?"

Not really a great area of discussion.

Analogies and comparisons between religious beliefs and other concrete theories rooted in science or other academic fields should be used sparingly as they have the innate ability to lead the topic off-topic, create new arguments, and fuel animosity.

The use of science should be used at all times...ever wonder why it was called the Age of Enlightenment?
Because we started believing in things we could evidence.

I am in no way bashing religion, nor would i ever (despite being a firm atheist)...i just believe encouraging people to throw away the scientific method is asking for people to throw away deliberation and intelligence.

Science examines the natural world. When we're talking about the natural world, then it would only be prudent to use science. However, when discussing the supernatural, then science shouldn't be a part of the discussion because the supernatural is beyond the scope of what science examines. It is the realm of philosophy and theology.

I just finished reading The Year of Living Biblically, by A.J. Jacobs, and thought it raised interesting questions about fundamentalism and literalism. From what I could see (aka search), there are no threads in the forum discussing either of these two topics. Does anyone think that this warrants a new thread, or is it not worth forum space?

A thread on literalism would be interesting.

Bringing back the old DoC thread and starting a more general bible discussion would probably be more productive. Otherwise it's just pointing out absurdities and laughing.

Nah. New thread.

If you repurpose an old thread newbies come in talking about older stuff.

What about this?

I don't think there's a thread in this forum for discussing the religious aspects of gay rights yet. Does it warrant its own thread?

I think it's a matter of doctrine in this context, not a matter of gay social rights, I'd say a thread over in this forum would be warranted.

Can we get someone to lock the "what would you say?" thread before I have to take any more blatantly ridiculous statements in there?

I'd link it, but I can't copy/paste from my device's browser.

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!
