The Paul Giamatti Appreciation SocietyOk, we are all here to talk about the greatest character actor around right now. He's funny, he's loud, he's crazy and he's brilliant. For anybody clueless about the Giamatster, he is the star of movies such as Sideways, American Splendo(u)r, Planet of the Apes, Private Parts and many many more. He is the biggest theif of scenes in Hollywood history, literally saving Planet of the Apes from being the worst movie ever as well as making the Frankie Muniz movie Big Fat Liar laughable at some points.

I agree 100%, Giamatti is a great actor. He was also great in Saving Private Ryan. I was so pissed after he didnt get nominated for Best Actor, not that it would have mattered because Foxx had it in the bag from day 1. However, he's still great. I have the movie poster of Sideways over my computer as I type! Giamatti is the man!

He was UNBELIEVABLE in American Splendor and got jobbed out of an oscar nom for that and for Sideways (tho Jaime Foxx was the rightful winner regardless) plus he's the son of ex-MLB commisioner Bart Giamatti which is just cool

I have issues with Foxx winning the Oscar, actually... but that's another story.
I loved Sideways. He was just brilliant in the film, and I'm shocked he didn't get more recognition for his role. Still, the lack of recognition is probably one of the reasons he can float between so many types of characters. He's just impossible to typecast, and I love him for that.

Agreed, he was great in American Splendor. He was just so.......awesome. Sideways is an absolute must must must see for you. He is absolutely insane in it. "FUCKING MERLOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

You know actors like George Clooney, as well as others, had put their names forward to audition for Sideways yet Thomas Haden Church and Paul Giamatti prevailed due to their ability to get completely lost in their characters. Which is awesome and shows just how good they are as actors. That, and they were a lot cheaper. But we'll keep that under the table.

oh god I hated that movie. I also forgot he was in Big Momma's House. But he will not be appearing in the sequel. For a good reason. Its main actor is Martin Lawrence. Yes, the same leading heart-throb from super movies like Blue Streak and even the ever-popular Black Knight.

i think he's a srg or a captain in saving private ryan.
' ive got ankles like a woman. like an old, goddam woman. after the war i'm gonne need a wheelchair. '
and yes, giamatti is awesome in the negotiater. haha.

between american splendor + sideways, there is more acting ability than most popular actors have these days.

i think un-pretty actors are usually better than people like clooney or pitt ( not that pitt hasnt done some good stuff ) because they require the ability to actually act instead of just being somethign pretty to put on film.
