HeroesToday as I was driving to work, I had to stop at a green light because the car in front of me was stalled, or so I thought. As I was trying to get around and wondering why this car's hazards weren't on, I saw a man jump out of a van sitting two lanes away and run over to the car. I could hear him asking the driver questions, and then I heard him say, "Sir, I think you're having a seizure!"

I could immediately feel myself freaking out, but somehow I managed to put my car in park and call 911 to give them our location. I watched the man find a way to get into the locked car to try and help the seizuring man. By the time I was off the phone the man was finished with his seizure and was frantic to leave. He drove off with his door open as the man helping tried to get him to wait.
I called 911 again to let them know the new situation, and the woman made a comment, "He probably doesn't want to have his license taken away." I really thought about that, and it made me extremely upset to think that someone would be so selfish as to risk others' lives just because he wants to have a license...what if he hadn't been stopped when the seizure started? I don't care if you think you can control your seizures, you never know when one won't go according to your "plan."
Although we may not have accomplished anything by trying to help out, I couldn't help reflecting on the one man's quick jump into action. There are few people like him out there now, due to some ridiculous "By-Stander Effect". I think I was lucky enough to meet a true hero today.
